Ember Sword is an exciting fantasy MMORPG and I was lucky enough to direct and design their gamer facing website whilst working at Fortnight Studio.
At the time of starting the project, we were very limited on game art since it was in early development. So this was my biggest conceptual challenge.
Nearly all projects that I design these days are done in Figma. What I like to do during setup is create a style board. Componentised elements inserted into cards, which a little bit of exploration to get a general idea of what I'll be doing in the bigger picture. Here's a quick look at that.
Luckily, I was able to sketch a few ideas for the hero area on the homepage, based on some of the early game concept art. After discussing my concepts at this stage, it gave their artists time to create the art that I could use in my UI design. After a handful of iterations and a few additional tweaks from me, we landed on a homepage concept as you see above and directly below.
I created 15 pages in total for desktop and mobile. Unfortunately I didn't build the website myself, instead their in-house developers did that. They also made a really beautiful animated matte painting which replaced the homepage hero.
